Be Transparent About The Way You Choose To Communicate.

In a dual-reporting relationship, your two bosses may have vastly different communication needs and preferences. There will be some you should cater to, some that you can’t. The key here is not to assume that the communication preferences of one boss are shared by the other. When you are consciously choosing not to cater to a preference, be transparent about it: “Judy, I know you prefer we talk about this in person. But Jack has requested I document it, so I am providing the basics to you both in writing. Let me know if that poses a problem.”
