The increased information appetite in matrix organizations means more questions. Take them for what they are—don’t personalize, don’t take offense, don’t assume they are trying to disprove your expertise. Answer questions with patience and sincerity—regardless of how others respond in return. In a matrix, you accomplish things with and through other people: that requires dialogue. And that dialogue includes questions. If you take questions personally, you won’t get very far, because your defensiveness will show and affect the level of trust that people have in you.
