Keeping focus is arguably the most challenging of facilitator roles. Tangents, side conversations and personal conflicts lurk around every corner. First and foremost, you need to keep the meeting’s outcome at the forefront. You can do this by posting your outcome somewhere everyone can see like the wall or top of the agenda. Introduce each part of the meeting by stating the goal for that issue and describing the process you plan to use. This helps everyone focus on the same task.
