Decision-making In A Dual Reporting Role: ZOOM OUT.

In a dual-reporting relationship matrix role, decision-making is tricky because you can often get caught in the middle of two bosses who have reached a stalemate on a decision that affects you, or you may be faced with making a decision that requires weighing their opinions or preferences. “Zoom Out” is what you will need to help them do or do yourself—take a look at the bigger-picture objective and determine the option that best gets you there. If you are helping them make a decision, you may have to do some of the set-up described in Rule #3 for them. Make sure they are both clear on the decision being made and even propose some criteria.
