The matrix brings a variety of expertise together to reach a common goal. But all that expertise can be underutilized if everyone talks like they would back in their home base. Being able to translate technical expertise—be it financial, scientific, operational, etc.—is becoming as important as having the expertise in the first place. Not only using language that is jargon-free but stopping to define jargon that is especially critical to understanding is a daily requirement in a matrix role. Contextualizing technical information through examples and stories is also important. To communicate technical information effectively in your matrix you must not only be clear but connect the information to your audience.
